Career Highlights

Having completed his fifth consecutive season on the main tour, the man from Mansfield has now reached the last 48 of four ranking events. Most notably, two of these have come at the World Championship, firstly in 2006 when he defeated David Roe and Ricky Walden before going down 10-9 to former champion John Parrott, as well as in 2009 when he lost to another former winner, Steve Davis. The other two occasions both came in the China Open in 2007 and 2008, eventually losing to James Wattana and Dave Harold respectively.

2008/9

His start to 2008/9 was not a spectacular one as barring a run to the third round of the Shanghai Masters qualifiers (where he lost out to eventual champion Ricky Walden), he struggled for wins and it looked like he might be seeing his spell on the tour come to an end.

Crucially for Lee however, for whatever reason he seemed to revel in the surroundings at the English Institute for Sport in Sheffield where the qualifiers for the UK and World Championship were to take place. Firstly he defeated Chris McBreen and Andrew Norman in the UK’s to reach the third round, before eliminating Stephen Craigie, Barry Pinches and Adrian Gunnell to go one better in the World Championship. Though he eventually lost 10-8 to six-times champion Steve Davis (having at one point led 5-0), the 2,300 ranking points he gained from the tournament were crucially enough to see him keep his place on the tour for another season by virtue of the one-year list.

It will be interesting to see how he gets in in 2009/10 because struggling as he was for much of this season, things bizarrely seemed to turn around after he fractured his ankle in early 2009 and had to slow down around the table as a result. This certainly seemed to help him at Sheffield and if he continues to play in this way then perhaps he can move up into the top 64 for the following season…
